The Universidad de Costa Rica (University of Costa Rica) was founded in 1940 and it is one of the five public universities of the country and one of the most prestigious universities of Latin America. It has more than 40000 students per academic year and it takes up more than 185 acres in the renowned San Pedro Neighbourhood.

The main campus is the Rodrigo Facio University City which has various faculties, schools and research institutes while the other one is the Research Village, that even has a planetarium. The third part of the university consists of sports facilities such as soccer fields, volleyball, basketball courts, swimming pools and gymnasiums. It also houses two important libraries: Carlos Monge Alfaro Library and Luis Demetrio Library.

Also, you can visit the Entomology Museum that is located at the Music Department of the University of Costa Rica which has a huge variety of insects and butterflies.

It is not only interesting to get to know the university campus, but also its surroundings bounded by groves where you can take a peaceful stroll and meet numerous busts and statues along the path. You will even have the opportunity to enjoy many of its busy bars and cafés full of university students.
