In the downtown of San José, between 2nd avenue and 2nd street, it is located the Central Park: a landscaped square with the shades of numerous palm trees from Guanacaste. One of its peculiarities is the number of parrots that live in its trees, which with their talks can even cover the traffic sounds.

One of the attractions is the bandstand in the centre of the park, striking for its arches, and the Carmen Lyra Library, a library specialised in children.

The Central Park is ideal for tasting litchi (also known as lychee and lichee, a tropical and subtropical fruit coming from the south of China), and papaya (also papaw and pawpaw) in the grocery shops that surround the park.

You can make the most of your visit to Central Park and enjoy visiting some of the most significant buildings of the city like The Metropolitan Cathedral of San José and its huge columns, and Melico Salazar Theatre, one of the most important theatres of Costa Rica.
