Travelers normally come to this region seeking the peace and calm that they do not find in other tourist areas. However, it is possible to enjoy adventure by exploring spectacular sites like the most impressive volcanoes in the world, such as the Irazú, Poás and Turrialba.

In addition to Alajuela and Heredia, there are two important provinces in this region: Cartago and San José, where you will find several places to rest away from the great metropolis and the country’s capital, San José, and to enjoy the wildest nature.

Cartago is a province located in the stunning Talamanca mountain chain, where the Costa Rican culture and its privileged natural surroundings become a great attraction. By exploring the natural parks of Volcán Irazú, Volcán de Turrialba and Tapantí you will have one of the most exciting experiences of your trip. The Orosí Valley and the extremely renowned Guayabo National Monument are other places not to be missed.

In respect to San José, green areas also stand out in this county, mainly the fabulous Los Quetzales National Park, where you will find the symbolic Central American bird: the quetzal. Moreover, you will notice many other important wild animals and birds. Besides, the beautiful and charming villages of San Gerardo de Dota and Santa María de Dota are close to this park. There, you will be able to relax and rest during your trip and to meet their friendly people while tasting the great Costa Rican meals.

Furthermore, in the Central Valley you will enjoy plenty of sports and natural activities like sport fishing and rafting in its rivers, trekking, hiking and bird and animal watching.

In short, the Central Valley region is a great leisure, cultural and entertainment option not to be missed during your travel to the astonishing Costa Rica.
