The province of Heredia is, undoubtedly, one of the most varied provinces of Costa Rica, where it is possible to practice lots of entertaining activities. Thanks to its position, it has become one of the must-visit provinces, since the El Limon province, bathed by Caribbean crystalline waters, and the province of San Jose, where it is possible to discover the purest Latin habits and cultures, are located next to it.

The province of Heredia is the perfect place to discover the most popular Hispanic traditions of Costa Rica, since the majority of its cantons are rural and eco-friendly regions. Besides, it is the perfect place to taste the delicious Costa Rican cuisine, composed by ingredients which are cooked with the country’s freshest and most ecological fruits and vegetables in this region; so they are authentic and tasty, for example, the “casado” (boiled rice, beans, and fried sweet bananas), the “gallo pinto” (beans, rice, fried or scrambled eggs, ground beef, fried banana, and sauce), and the “carnitas” (burrito-like grilled meat), among many more.

Some of the most outstanding cantons in this province are Sarapiqui, where you can visit the spectacular city of Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui; and Barva, where you can enjoy one of the most rural and eco-friendly areas of Costa Rica with plenty of enormous banana plantations.

In the province of Heredia, one of the most prominent cities is Heredia, which is also known as “the city of the flowers”. There, you will find lots of parks and green areas, and lots of interesting buildings; among them, the impressive Iglesia de la Inmaculada Church.

Undoubtedly, the province of Heredia is an ideal destination to find out the country’s most typical traditions and habits and to, above all, be able to forget about the bustle of big cities.
