San Gerardo de Dota is located in one of the most beautiful regions in Costa Rica, the Central Valley, where the exuberant nature makes this environment the natural habitat of some of the most splendid and exotic fauna and flora in the country.

This village is mainly known for being the home of one of the most extraordinary birds in the world: the quetzal. San Gerardo de Dota is the entrance to the Los Quetzales National Park, where you will be able to admire this important bird for Central American identity and mythology. Besides, other important birds live there, such as the woodpecker, the tangara, or the hummingbird; thus, it is a veritable paradise for bird watching.

Surrounded by the green hills of the Central Valley and the Savegre river, this beautiful village offers a fantastic view of its surroundings. In order to enjoy the experience to the full, you can lodge in some of the numerous hostels and huts that spread over the mountain and live an unique experience.

Some of the most practiced activities there are fishing, mainly of trouts, and hiking across the Central Valley, where you will be able to know the incredible nature of its cloud forest and the fauna residing in its thick green vegetation.
