When you visit Refugio Nacional Barra del Colorado (Barra del Colorado Wildlife Shelter), you have the feeling of being in an incredible natural atmosphere. This impressive protected area of 227334.4 acres it is an innermost place, so it will be difficult to go there. On the other hand, this characteristic enabled the area to preserve its diverse fauna and flora.

While you can go there by car, light aircraft or boat, it is recommended to choose this last means of transport to admire nature during the journey.   

The best time to visit this wildlife shelter is during the dry season, from February to April, because you will have the chance to observe more birds and reptiles. Moreover, it is the best time to practise recreational fishery, which is an attraction of this place, as there are a number of cottages where you can rent a boat and go fishing Río San Juan’s sharks.
