Opening hours in Costa Rica depend on commercial establishments as well as on the shop’s’ location as in big cities the opening hours last longer than in small communities. Similarly, most commercial establishments in touristic areas have uninterrupted opening hours, and they can remain open the whole week.

Below, you can find the most common opening hours:

Shops: common opening hours are from 8h to 12h and from 14h to 16h from Monday through Friday and on Saturday mornings. In San José, the most frequent is that the businesses remain uninterruptedly open from 8h to 18h from Monday through Saturday. However, shopping centres stay open for longer periods, usually, closing at 21h or 22h. In touristic areas, shops are opened even on Sundays and on official holidays.  

Restaurants: its opening hours are from 7h to 21h. Little sodas, more familiar restaurants, open just at certain hours (for lunch and dinner).

National Parks: they are opened every day from 8h to 16h.

Museums: their opening hours are variable so it is better to consult each one of them individually. Usually, they are closed on Mondays and some of them even during lunchtime from 12 h to 13:30h.   

Banks: Generally, they are open every working day from 9h to 15h. State banks are open Saturday mornings too.
