Internet and telephones in Costa Rica
It is advisable to get more information on smartphones and internet connection before travelling to Costa Rica
There is an intense communication via email in Costa Rica (as postal mail is quite slow and not very reliable) so you will not have any problem connecting to the internet at the multiple cybercafés that are located in the city centre and main shopping boulevards near touristic places. Furthermore, in most hotels you can have access to the internet while some touristic businesses have free wifi.
You must take into account that, as it happens with telephones and sometimes with television signals, communications fail when it is stormy.
Mobile telephones work perfectly and its rates are affordable. You can bring an unlocked phone to Costa Rica, and once there, buy a prepaid card.
Phone booths work with coins and cards that are easy to buy in kiosks, petrol stations or supermarkets.
To make a phone call to Costa Rica, you must take into account that the country telephone numbers have 8 digits and area codes do not exist, just the country’s generic code, +506.
For international phone calls from Costa Rica, you must enter the number 00 before your country’s code.
