If you are planning to visit Costa Rica, their official holidays must be taken into account as banks, public offices and many shops are closed. Moreover, their public transports have special schedules. Below, you will find a list of these official holidays:

- 1st of January: New Year's Day.

- 19th of March: Saint Joseph's Day.

- 11th of April: Rivas’ Battle Memorial. Juan Santamaría Day, national hero.

- Easter (variable): Thursday and Friday before Easter Sunday are holidays, but some shops and restaurants are closed the whole week.  

- 1st of May: Labour Day.

- 25th of July: Guanacaste Province’s annexation day.

- 2nd of August: Virgin of The Angels Day, the country’s and Carthage’s Patron Saint.

- 15th of August: Assumption of the Virgin. Mother’s Day.

- 15th of September: Costa Rica’s Independence Day.

- 12th of October: Culture’s Day.

- 24th and 25th of December: Christmas. Usually, in the last week of December most shops and restaurants are closed.
